BOTOX:

BOTOX:

What is Botox?
A natural purified protein produced by Clostridium botulinum bacterium.

Is it safe?
Yes. It is purified so that the toxin is removed from the germ. The Botox is also injected in such small amounts there is no risk of disease in people.

How does it work?
It is injected into or near a muscle to temporarily weaken the targeted muscle, which in turn prevents or decreases the movement that causes the wrinkle. It is the repeated movement of muscles that cause wrinkles so by preventing the movement you get a reduction or softening of the wrinkles.

Is there any pre-treatment?
No. We do ask that you avoid or minimize the use of products containing aspirin, Ibuprofen, St. John’s Wort or high doses of Vitamin E for 1 week prior to treatment to reduce the risk of bruising and/or bleeding at the injection site. However your individual parameters can be set at the time of consult.

Is there any post treatment?
You will be instructed at the time of discharge related to your specific injection site/s, however in general we ask that you remain upright and don’t manipulate the site for 4 hours, and don’t engage in aerobic exercise for 24 hours.

Does it hurt?
There is very minimal discomfort.
